Could Lunarpages in fact be the greatest phpBB web host out there? I would say so. For those of you who do not know, phpBB is one of the most widely used open source forum solutions to date. It’s user friendly installation process and easy to use administration panel has made it one of the most popular forum scripts out there too.
At Lunarpages, you have the option to install phpBB manually, via cPanel’s Fantastico script collection or if you have the LPCP control panel, through the WebApps Pool. Every method listed, is very simple to do. You can customize phpBB to fit any situation. With the modifications and styles they provide, you will be able to setup a set of forums that are powerful enough for your needs and look just the way you want them to look.
The only big flaw I can find with a script like phpBB is it is very exploit prone. Due to the fact that it is very popular, it gets hit with security issues more than your average forum script.
Need Help? To help you get started, here are a few tutorials to help:
You can find more help and tutorials about phpBB at the web hosting wiki too. The folks at OpenSourceCMS also provide a demo of phpBB you can try out before you install it on your own web hosting account.

One of the most widely used shopping cart scripts out there is osCommerce. It gives the shop owner an open-source online e-commerce solution. You might have already known that, however did you know a number of our web hosting plans come with a way to get it installed in a single click? Lunarpages is a great provider of osCommerce web hosting.
You can easily install the osCommerce script by doing so in cPanel’s Fantastico, LPCP’s WebApps or by downloading it and installing it manually. The manual install option might be tedious to some. That is why I am so excited to see we can give you an easier way to install from the cPanel or LPCP control panels.
Can you extend osCommerce? Yes, you can. This e-commerce hosting script supports add-ons. Add-ons are extra scripts and services you can install to give your e-commerce business extra tools, a new appearance, or a number of new features the basic script does not provide.
The official osCommerce web site delivers multiple ways to try the script or see web sites using the script.
osCommerce is a great feature rich tool, which provides out-of-the-box shopping cart functionality and style. If you are looking for the perfect osCommerce hosting plan, you might check out the extra benefits the Business hosting plan offers.
You can find more how-to articles in our web hosting wiki. The third-party scripts and services section of the Lunarforums should also come in handy if you run into a problem.

Looking through Google AdSense advice and suggested places to put your advertisements, I often see it suggested to put the ads between your posts on the index page. Having searched around for ways to get it done, I found none that were easy – until I found this page.
This is the guide I followed from tambό.org.uk’s page on this issue. I hope this comes in as handy for you as it did for me, because it took me forever to find a code combination that worked exactly like I wanted it to.
Copying from above, you would use this instead:
<?php
= 1;
= 1;
= 2;
?>
which would go at the top.
Again copying from the above, you already have this:
<?php if ( == ) {
echo ‘
Your adsense code goes here
‘;
} ?>
<?php ++; ?>
and you would add another block below the first ad, but above the counter at the bottom. Here it is all together:
<?php if ( == ) {
echo ‘
Your adsense code goes here
‘;
} ?>
<?php if ( == ) {
echo ‘
Your adsense code goes here
‘;
} ?>
<?php ++; ?>
The first bit says the values, then the values are checked each time WP goes through The Loop. If the counter matches what your value is, the ad is shown. Changing the numbers lets you change the placement.
Hope that helps, and many thanks to the tamba2.org.uk site. Be sure to check out this page for more help on AdSense optimization within WordPress.

Have you produced a number of free videos for your site, and are you looking for an easy way to make sure they get shared across the Web? If so, you might want to look at the in-depth tracking and distribution tool, TubeMogul.
This online tool helps you in two ways. It helps you promote your online video across many different video sharing sites, and it gives you the analytic stats for each video and tells you how they are performing hit-wise across the board.
Here are some of the features included:
Stunning Charts – easily create charts that track videos and/or video publishers.
Powerful Analysis Tools – create custom groups of videos, video publishers and online video sites, and receive analytics by group.
Universal Upload – Upload your videos to all major video sharing sites in one shot!
Aggregated Analytics – track online video analytics across online video sites including Google Video, MetaCafe, MySpace, AOL, Yahoo!, Revver, YouTube and more!
If I did any wide-stream video distribution, TubeMogul is definitely the tool I would be looking for to make it easier and to get the traffic numbers you’ll need to prove your skateboarding dog video is the best one out there.

Have you setup your Google profile? A while back, Google started to show profiles in their search results, so if you want to make sure somebody is able to find you – it might be a good idea to set up or update your own Google profile.
To get started, go to Google’s create a profile page, and click on the create my profile button. From there, you can list your name, upload a photo, give a description about yourself, list your super powers (what, you don’t have super powers?), list your web site links and so much more. The above picture is an example of my own profile on Google.
Once you are done, it might take a while, but you should start showing up as a result at the bottom of your Google search for your own name. Here is mine, as another example:
So there you have it. That is one more easy way to make sure people find you and your web sites when searching via Google.

Want to know how you can get more information about how Microsoft’s new Bing search crawls your web sites? You could easily submit your domain name to their webmaster tools section. How do you do that? Let me show you.
First, you will want to go to the webmaster tools page, and login using your MSN login information. (Yes, even I forgot I had a Hotmail account!).
Once you login, here is what things look like:
As you can see you can easily add your e-mail address, web site address and sitemap address. Once you do that, you have several different ways you can verify your ownership of the web site you submit. Much like Google’s and Yahoo!’s webmaster tools, you can embed some code, or download a file to upload to your web site.
Once you get that done, then you should get a profile for your domain:
They provide a lot of good information that will give you details on how your domain is being crawled by Bing. You get your site status, crawl issues, backlinks, outbound links, a keyword tool and more. I also look forward to seeing what else they add here to catch up with Google’s webmaster tools service – as it is the current leader of the pack.

What does it take to get your web site to the top of the search engine mountain? Is there an easy way out or does it take hard work and dedication? I got an e-mail from a Lunartics reader who wants to know:
Hi Mitch, I was wanting to know if you could give us a run-down on the basic things people should know when stepping into making our sites better for the search engines? - Sam
Ah, the art of search engine optimization (otherwise known as SEO). Here is my own three punch combination if you want to get yourself to a higher spot in the various search engines out there:
- Produce Quality Content – The key thing to remember is to put out quality articles, posts and content and not just a great amount of data into the Web. Quality over quantity wins every time.
- Get Like-Minded Sites to Link to You – Find other web sites that have the same type of content you do, and get them to link to you (and vice versa). For example, if you run a gaming site, go out and find gaming forums and blogs that will link to your content.
- Optimize That Content with a Few Simple Rules – There are a few simple rules to follow when formatting your content. Make good use of your headline tags, break your content up into easily to read paragraphs, and don’t use too many links.
Don’t Fall for SEO Scams
If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. There are a lot of “get popular quick!” or “raise yourself to the top of the search engines” scams out there, that I would take with a grain of salt. From what I have seen there is no perfect way to make the search engines like you more, and no instant solution to get to the top.
Want to learn more? Here are a few more good resources on getting started with search engine optimization:
Search Engine Watch | Search Engine Guide | SEO Chat
In conclusion, the best thing you can do for your web site if you want the search engines to be your friend and rank you at the top is to put out quality content, and get more people to link to that quality content. It is really that simple. Now it might not happen overnight, but if you work at it – and stick to your guns, you’ll make it up the ranks.

I have arrived in Vegas yesterday (January 30th) after more than 20 hours spent in flying and hanging around on airports. I have boarded in Sofia, Bulgaria, the city where I live (at least most of the time) and as I usually do, I’ve landed in New York, the city I spend as much of my time as […]
