HAPedit - PHP, HTML and ASP Editor

Monday, February 18th, 2008

By Mitch “Likes to Edit” Keeler

What does HAPedit stand for? It is an editor for HTML, ASP, and PHP. It is a win32 text-mode editor useful for all developers of dynamic web pages.

Some of the included features for this freeware program include: syntax highlighting for html/PHP, HTML/ASP, JavaScript, CSS and SQL; page preview in browser project manager PHP code “compilation”; edit html tags; code completion; preview images; SQL console; FTP Manager Code Explorer and more. It does a little bit of everything and does it as good as any other text editor you might find.

HAPedit Screenshot

HAPedit Pro: The tabbed interface is nice and the layout is familiar.
HAPedit Con: Just gives you the basics, others might be looking for a bit more in an editor.

Download HAPedit! | Visit HAPedit???s Web Site

Over all this download might not be my top favorite HTML editor, but it does offer a nice alternative if you are not happy with some of the other more popular solutions out there. It gets the job done and it will not cost you a single cent. What else could you want from a piece of software?

Matrix Y2K

Friday, February 15th, 2008

By Mitch “M2K” Keeler

I remember Y2K just like it was yesterday. Computers were suppose to stop working, cows were going to produce cheese instead of milk and other oddities were suppose to happen. None of them did of course, and everything was just fine and dandy. Speaking of fine and dandy, that is also how I would describe the HTML editor - Matrix Y2K.

The free download offers all the usual features such as: HTML Tidy, Documents manager, Tag Library for PHP and HTML, quick access to commonly used tags, completion proposal, multi-document interface, syntax highlighting (highlighters can be adjusted and personalized), search/replace, character map.

Matrix Y2K Screenshot

Matrix Y2K Pro: Quick, Lightweight, and the 3 pane interface is nice.
Matrix Y2K Con: Wish there was more support documentation on the web site for it.

Over all this download might not be my top favorite HTML editor, but it does offer a nice alternative if you are not happy with some of the other more popular solutions out there. It gets the job done and it will not cost you a single cent. What else could you want from a piece of software?

KompoZer

Monday, February 11th, 2008

By Mitch “Well KompoZed” Keeler

KompoZer is Nvu’s brother from another mother. As a complete web authoring program that combines web file management and easy-to-use WYSIWYG web page editing KompoZer delivers just as much (if not more) punch than Nvu.

It features you files on your left and your editing window on your right. From there you can go back and forth between the “preview” (how your site would look like when published) and editing mode as easily as you can click the tabs back and forth. Along with many more valuable features KompoZer is the hammer, nails, screwdriver and jackhammer you need for your web developer toolbelt.

KompoZer Screenshot

KompoZer Pro: More bells and whistles than you can shake a server at.

KompoZer Con: The install might confuse some, you’ll need to unzip it for Windows and then hunt down the “kompozer.exe” to use inside of the unzipped folder.

Download KompoZer! | Visit KompoZer’s Web Site

KompoZer delivers where it counts. Not only does it include a color picker, tabs, CSS editing, forms, and markup cleaner it is also un-buggy and a solid program I would suggest for anybody to use as a companion to their Lunarpages hosting account.

Alleycode - Text and HTML Editor

Monday, February 11th, 2008

By Mitch “Drag and Drop” Keeler

Being lucky enough to be the one selected to look at the slew of freeware products we will be reviewing here has been a blessing. I check to check out and use a lot of awesome programs and honestly one of the most impressive thus far is Alleycode.

Alleycode is like a mash up of your traditional text and WYSIWYG editors. The Synchro View feature allows you to edit the page in question in real time and see instantly how your changes effect the layout. Other features worth looking into are the Quick Edit, CSS Wizard, Turf View, HTML Toolbar and more. You can check out all the features it provides on their web site. From head to toe a great freeware download.

Alleycode Screenshot

Alleycode Pro: Does more than most paid applications do, plus it is free!

Alleycode Con: Not recommended by developer to use with Windows Vista.

Download Alleycode! | Visit Alleycode’s Web Site

I honestly can not say enough good things about this product. In comparison with some of the paid software solutions that do the same thing, it beats them hands down. So if you are in the hunt for a solid HTML and text editor Alleycode is well worth checking into.

Nvu - Powerful WYSIWYG Editor

Friday, February 8th, 2008

By Mitch “Easy Editing” Keeler

Maybe you don’t have the cash to splurge on Dreamweaver or FrontPage but you still want a good WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) editor. What options do you have for your web hosting plan? There are many out there - but top of the line in my opinion is Nvu.

Nvu is the open source version of the editor that used to come with Netscape. It has been improved upon though by the open source community and has become on of the better free site editors out there. If you can use a word processor, you can use Nvu to create and maintain your own web site.

Nvu Screenshot of Editor

Nvu Pro: Great editor for static sites, and the help section is awesome too.

Nvu Con: Might take some playing around with before you learn how to use it.

Download Nvu! | Vist Nvu’s Web Site

Once you learn how to do things and what you are doing, Nvu is a great tool for any webmaster to use to build up their web site, update their content and change their design. It is powerful yet doesn’t overwhelm you with a lot of stuff you do not need.
